I have been working with diet and genetics in the Greenlandic population since 2017. Right now my focus is on the effects of a special gene variant, which results in carriers not being able to digest ordinary sugar. The gene variant is generally extremely rare, but just in the Arctic it is relatively common. Data from the Greenlandic population studies have shown that Greenlanders who have inherited the gene variant from both parents are metabolically healthier than others. I have completed a dietary intervention with participants in Maniitsoq and Nuuk to find out why.
