As part of her Master's programme in Public Health Science, at the University of Copenhagen, Marie has been on an internship at Steno Diabetes Center Greenland (SDCG) in the spring of 2023.
Here she has conducted a process evaluation of the patient education intervention "Osteoarthritis School", which since 2020 has been an offer for citizens with osteoarthritis in physiotherapy at Queen Ingrid's Hospital in Nuuk.
The osteoarthritis school consists of (1) an individual examination by a physiotherapist, (2) one hour group training in osteoarthritis, (3) a training course with physically supervised training on a team basis twice a week for 12 weeks, which is inspired by the concept GLA: D (Good Life with Osteoarthritis in Denmark). The citizens who are not interested in a supervised training course are instructed in a self-training program for 12 weeks, and (4) two follow-up visits to a physiotherapist.
Marie has interviewed 10 people with osteoarthritis who have been enrolled in osteoarthritis school and asked them about their experiences and experiences with osteoarthritis school. In addition, she has asked them if they had any ideas for future patient education interventions. Their response should help the SDCG to develop new patient education interventions for people with other diseases.
Marie is currently writing a scientific article based on the collected data.
