Marit Eika Jørgensen becomes the new center director at the Steno Diabetes Center

22. April 2024

Steno Diabetes Center Greenland has a new center director. It is senior physician and professor Marit Eika Jørgensen who takes over the position as center director after Michael Lynge Pedersen, professor in Arctic medicine.

"I'm really looking forward to taking on this exciting position. The center has a strong focus on diabetes treatment and lifestyle diseases, on research and telemedicine, and on collaboration with the rest of the healthcare system. I'm really excited about that," Marit Eika Jørgensen says expectantly and adds:

"One of my priorities is that all citizens in Greenland receive good treatment, regardless of where they live. Therefore, I'm pleased that we have new, good opportunities with telemedicine, and that we already have a good collaboration with the local healthcare professionals at the lifestyle clinics throughout Greenland. This helps to limit inequality in access to treatment.

Marit is not new to the Steno scene. Since 2021, she has been employed as a senior physician and researcher at the Steno Diabetes Center Greenland.

"I'm pleased that with Marit, we have obtained a strong, professional profile with solid experience in Greenland to continue the development of the Steno Diabetes Center Greenland," says a satisfied Tina Amondsen, director of the Greenland Health Care System, emphasizing that Marit is a broadly grounded endocrinologist and researcher with 25 years of experience in diabetes, and furthermore, she possesses a strong public health commitment.

"The health management looks forward to collaborating with Marit on the continued development of the Steno Diabetes Center Greenland," continues the director of the Greenland Health Care System, also thanking Michael Lynge Pedersen for his great, tireless efforts in establishing first the lifestyle outpatient clinic and later the Steno Diabetes Center Greenland in 2021 - and not least for his 25 years as a physician and researcher in the Greenland Health Care System.

Even though Michael Lynge Pedersen is leaving the position as center director, he remains a part of the Steno Diabetes Center Greenland, where he will focus on working with telemedicine and further developing the quality of diabetes treatment in Greenland.

Steno Diabetes Center Greenland is supported by the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
