INUUNERISSAAVIK STENO / STENO DIABETES CENTER GREENLAND A CENTER WITH NATIONWIDE TASKS
In March 2020, Naalakkersuisut (the Government of Greenland) and the Novo Nordisk Foundation Board approved a storyboard for the establishment of the Steno Diabetes Center Greenland (SDCG). The board of the Novo Nordisk Foundation has also approved a grant of DKK 382 million for The Government of Greenland to establish SDCGs and ensure a strengthened diabetes and lifestyle effort throughout the country over the next 10 years. The SDCG therefore became a reality from 1 July 2020.
The vision of the center is to improve the general health and quality of life for all people throughout the country with diabetes, high blood pressure and COPD, and to contribute to a coherent treatment effort.
The establishment of Steno Diabetes Center Greenland is the core of the cooperation and the center is becoming an integral part of the Greenland Healthcare Service. At Inuunerissaavik Steno, healthcare professionals and researchers will treat patients, develop and gather knowledge about diabetes and selected lifestyle diseases.
